Finance Assistant

Hours : Full-Time
Salary : £25,000 to £27,500

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Finance Assistant at the Haynes Motor Museum in Sparkford, Somerset. As one of the leading museums and visitor attractions in the South West, with 125,000 visitors annually, you will be joining a dynamic and engaged team of over 120 staff and volunteers.

The Museum is a registered charity and has three core objectives: The preservation and conservation of the collection which comprises over 400 vehicles, and education both formally through organised school and college visits and outreach, and informally through enabling our visitors to explore the social history and automotive technology behind the motor vehicle and its evolution. 

In support of the charity, the Museum also operates several businesses that donate all of their profits to support these charitable objectives. Those businesses are: 

• Haynes Heritage Engineering a commercial vehicle workshop & restoration centre 
• Conference and Events 
• Café 750 
• Museum Shop and Online Retail 

Purpose of the Role 
The Finance Assistant will undertake all tasks within the finance department and act as a general support to the Finance Director. The Museum has a collaborative and supportive culture so this is an ideal opportunity to use your skills in a dynamic and diverse organisation with a helpful and friendly team.

Responsibilities of the Role 
• Process purchase invoices and journals accurately ensuring that VAT is treated correctly and any expense is appropriately authorised 
• Process and reconcile a variety of income streams with both cash and electronic receipts 
• Maintain fixed asset registers 
• Complete bank and credit card reconciliations, VAT returns and other regular reports in an accurate and timely manner 
• Undertake credit control when required 
• Monitor and ensure EPOS system reports and financial records are accurate and robust. This may require liaising with the Museum’s EPOS providers 
• Assist in the preparation of management accounts and year end statutory account files for audit review 
• Prepare ad hoc financial reports when required 
• Be willing to use your unique skills and experience to work with other team members on ad hoc projects when required 
• To prepare weekly, monthly and annual visitor number reports where required F

Key Skills
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a high degree of ability to deliver in the majority of areas laid out above in the Purpose of the Role.

Essential

  • Accuracy and numeracy with a high standard of attention to detail 
  • Good IT skills and comfortable with all Microsoft Office software 
  • Quick and efficient worker 
  • Strong Microsoft Excel capability 
  • Able to use own initiative and a good team player 
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Qualified CAT, AAT or similar 

Desirable

  • Enquiring mind and willingness to get involved in a variety of tasks 
  • Experience working with Sage 50
  • Experience working with EPOS system(s) Qualifications Qualified CAT, AAT or similar

Hours & Structure
The role is full time although part time might be considered for the right candidate. You will report directly to the Finance Director and work with managers and members of other departments daily. 

Salary 
£25,000 to £27,500 (dependent on experience) 

Location 
Sparkford, Somerset BA22 7LH, just minutes off the A303, the main trunk road to the South West
