Transitions: A New Exhibition at Haynes Motor Museum
28th Oct 2025
Transitions is a forward-looking exhibition that delves into the evolving landscape of sustainable motoring, spotlighting the latest technologies shaping the cars of tomorrow. From alternative fuels to autonomous driving, the exhibition aims to spark conversation about what the future of motoring could look like.
With the British Motor Museum providing the foundation for the exhibition, we’ve been able to explore a range of themes within broader topics. One standout example is Yr Glanaf, a wooden electric car that highlights the growing relevance of electric vehicles - currently the most popular alternative to the internal combustion engine. It also opens up discussion around the use of sustainable materials in automotive design.
The future of motoring has long captured the public imagination, from the grand expositions of the early to mid-20th century that dreamed of flying cars. While Transitions doesn’t feature airborne vehicles, it does showcase a pioneering example of autonomous technology: the 2016 Range Rover Sport. The concept of driverless cars dates back to the 1950s, but recent technological advances have brought it closer to reality. The exhibition explains the different levels of vehicle autonomy and what they mean for drivers.
Transitions also explores alternative fuel sources, including electric, hydrogen, and synthetic fuels. Visitors can learn about the role of batteries in electric vehicles - comparable in many ways to those in smartphones - and examine a hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai, accompanied by real components that reveal the inner workings of hydrogen technology. The Honda Insight, based on the J-VX concept, offers a glimpse into early hybrid innovation.
Fuel innovation is a key focus, with insights into how synthetic fuels are produced and their potential to keep both classic and modern vehicles on the road. The exhibition provides a clear understanding of how these fuels could shape the future of everyday motoring.
Finally, Transitions doesn’t shy away from the challenges ahead. It addresses issues such as battery production, the cost and accessibility of electric vehicles, and their environmental impact. Visitors are invited to reflect on the future of driving - exploring both the promise of alternative fuels and the hurdles they must overcome to become mainstream solutions.
Transitions is now open at Haynes Motor Museum. Entry is included with the Museum Entry Ticket.
