Environmental & Human Trafficking Statement
Our Environmental Commitment
Haynes Motor Museum is committed to reducing its environmental impact by continually seeking to lower carbon emissions across all areas of operation. Through improvements to organisational practices and visitor engagement, we aim to raise awareness of motoring’s environmental legacy and promote a more sustainable future.
We are committed to understanding and reducing the environmental impact of our activities. By lowering our carbon footprint and improving energy efficiency, we aim to support long-term sustainability while contributing positively to global climate goals.
We also recognise our responsibility to inform, educate and inspire visitors. Through our collections, exhibitions and programmes, we share stories about the environmental impact of motoring—past, present and future—and encourage informed discussion about sustainable transport and travel.
By taking practical action and sharing our progress, we aim to ensure that everyone who engages with the Museum can contribute, directly or indirectly, to our environmental objectives.
Our Approach
Haynes Motor Museum recognises that its operations have an impact on the local, regional and global environment. We are committed to continuously improving our environmental performance and operating in a responsible and sustainable manner.
Energy
We work to reduce energy consumption across the site through energy-efficient lighting, optimised building management systems and renewable energy generation.
Our 648 rooftop solar panels generate clean electricity for the Museum and, during peak periods, allow us to export surplus energy back to the National Grid.
Since their installation in 2023, our solar panels have saved more than 120,000kg of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to planting nearly 13,000 trees or avoiding more than 3 million kilometres of vehicle travel.
Water
We aim to minimise water consumption through the use of dual-flush toilet systems, sensor-operated taps and other water-saving technologies.
Waste
We work closely with our waste management partners to minimise waste generated by Museum activities, maintain high levels of recycling and operate a zero waste-to-landfill policy.
Travel
As a rural attraction, most visitors travel to the Museum by car. To support lower-emission transport, electric vehicle charging points are available for visitors, staff and volunteers.
Business travel by staff and volunteers is kept to a minimum and, wherever practical, public transport is encouraged for longer journeys.
Responsible Procurement
We seek to procure goods and services in an environmentally responsible manner and work with suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability. Wherever possible, we support the use of local and seasonal produce through our catering operations.
Exhibitions and Displays
Environmental sustainability is considered when developing exhibitions and displays. We aim to reuse and repurpose materials wherever possible, minimise waste and maximise recycling opportunities.
We also seek collaborative exhibition opportunities that enable resources to be shared across organisations and use our displays to encourage discussion about the environmental impact of motoring and travel.
Continuous Improvement
- We are committed to ongoing environmental improvement and will continue to:
Monitor and improve energy performance across the Museum. - Review energy usage data to identify opportunities for efficiency savings.
- Encourage staff and volunteer engagement through feedback and environmental initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for carbon reduction across all areas of the organisation.
- Share achievements and progress to encourage continued involvement and commitment.
Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
Haynes Motor Museum is committed to conducting all aspects of its business ethically and transparently. We fully support the principles of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and are opposed to all forms of modern slavery and human trafficking.
We strive to ensure that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in any part of our operations or supply chains. The Museum expects the same high standards from its suppliers, contractors, and partners, and takes steps to work only with organisations that uphold these values.
Through continued awareness, monitoring, and responsible practices, Haynes Motor Museum is dedicated to maintaining an environment that respects human rights and dignity for all.
