Remember Mansell Mania - that glorious period when Nigel Mansell was at his peak and Williams were developing a world-beating car.

With the iconic ‘Red 5’ on the nose, rivals certainly knew when the hard-charging Mansell was on the track. Created by Chief Designer Adrian Newey with Technical Director Patrick Head, it featured a carbon fibre composite chassis, semi-automatic gearbox, and advanced aerodynamics. Although the innovative FW14 lacked the reliability to secure the title, the Renault V10 provided the speed for Mansell and Patrese to win seven races in 1991. It became the foundation for the all-conquering FW14B, which added active suspension and traction control, to carry Mansell to the Drivers’ title in 1992.

Williams were the dominant team in the 1990s, winning three Drivers’ Championships with Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve along with five Constructors’ titles.

The Williams FW14 is displayed in Williams F1: The Drivers & The Driven Exhibition.
