John Haynes: The Man & The Manuals

This exhibition tells the story of the Museum's founder, John H Haynes OBE, and showcases cars such as a 1931 Austin Seven Special and a 1959 Austin Healey Sprite Mk1.

The journey begins in 1954, when John, still at school, rebuilt a wrecked Austin 7 into a '750 Special'. He documented the project in a small booklet — which quickly sold out — sparking the start of a remarkable career in automotive publishing.

Years later, John produced his first full workshop manual for the Austin Healey Sprite, cementing his legacy in motoring history and helping generations of car enthusiasts learn and maintain their vehicles.

Photos shown: 1931 Austin 750 Special, 1959 Austin Healey Sprite Mk1 and the whole exhibition space.

Entry to John Haynes: The Man & The Manuals is included with the Museum Entry Ticket.
