October Half Term Family Fun!

This half term, Haynes International Motor Museum is geared up for a fantastic day out for all ages. Enjoy a fun-filled day out together as you uncover the fascinating stories, sights and sounds behind the history of motoring in seventeen themed exhibitions at one of Somerset’s largest indoor attractions. With activities running on select days, here's what you can get up to!

"SMALL TALK" WITH DAVID HAYWARD

The late John Haynes OBE commissioned a number of fabulously intricate 1:12 scale models of cars in the Collection from bespoke model maker David Hayward.  We're so excited to be introducing to you our BRAND NEW family trail 'Shrink Me!' find the full-size original car in the Museum and then answer the questions! You'll also have to chance to meet the man himself, David Hayward, talking about how he makes the iconic scale models and all things model making! You can meet the model maker on Tuesday 26th October and Thursday 28th October 10:00am - 2:00pm in the Museum! 

THE DARRACQ DRIVES AGAIN!

One of the oldest cars in our collection, the 1903 Type L Darracq is being readied to take part in the 2021 London-Brighton Veteran Car Run. The Run itself takes place on Sunday 7th November, but before this, you can see the Darracq put through her paces in The Paddock and find out from Mark, her mechanic, what it's like to drive a car over a hundred years old!

Times and dates for The Paddock are to be confirmed.

SO MUCH TO SEE AND DO!

Explore the largest collection of cars in the UK and get up close to hundreds of shiny vehicles including horseless carriages, supercars, Formula 1s and Ferraris.

SEE AND HEAR ONE OF THE FIRST INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES WHIRR AND SPRING TO LIFE

Push to start the working Barsanti-Matteucci engine on display in the Dawn of Motoring and see the gears and pistons spring to life, then find out how a modern car works from the engine to wheels with working cutaway in Memory Lane.

TRY THE NEW “REDS AROUND THE WORLD” INTERACTIVE

Experience the famous Red Room filled to the brim with shiny red sports cars. Try the new hands-free “Reds around the World” interactive to learn all about the colour red and what the colour means in different countries.

KEEP LITTLE ONES BUSY ALONG THE WAY

Throughout the Museum lookout for plenty of things to do like Paint a Mini, brass rubbings, the Top Trumps trail and Haynes Motorland, a fantastic outside playground; with coin-operated go-karts, interactive garage and mini road system.

ENJOY A WELCOME PITSTOP IN CAFÉ 750

The onsite Café 750 with seating inside and out also provides the perfect pit-stop throughout your visit, serving good coffee, a selection of refreshments and fresh, locally sourced food and snacks for all the family daily.

  • Keep the fun alive at home: The Museum gift shop is filled with car-related toys, books, clothing and gifts for motoring enthusiasts large and small.
  • Race each other on the track: You can also book the Go-Kart track at Karting at Haynes, this is not included within your Museum ticket so please book separately on 01963 400591
